Favourite 3 restaurants in St. Lucia

I don’t really leave the North of the island where I live here in St. Lucia so my listing of top restaurants in St. Lucia is somewhat biased to where I spend my time. There are obviously other great restaurants here on the island particularly in the South from what I hear.

  1. Big Chef – There’s nothing hit or miss about this restaurant. Over the past few years I’ve eaten here a few dozen times and it’s always great. Being a steakhouse first and foremost the cuts of beef, how they’re cooked and accompanying sides can’t be matched by any other restaurant I’ve eaten at here in St. Lucia. Above all Mark and Rosie the owners are great people and really know how to run a great steakhouse. One recommendation I have is that if you’re a woman that you bring a sweater with you as it can get a bit cool inside the restaurant when they have the A/C’s cranked up.
  2. The Naked Fisherman – Located on a beautiful and quaint beach just below the Cap Maison hotel this beach side restaurant is a great place to dine for lunch or dinner (we generally prefer dinner as it can get rather hot during the day). Although we tend to get the same dishes each time we go (either the fish and chips or burger) having tried other dishes on the menu I believe that everything is good. Fresh ingredients with good flavors is how they do their food. Combine that with the beach side setting and a nice glace of wine and it really hits the spot.
  3. Elanas – If you’re looking for the best pizza on the Island give Elenas a try it’s not the cheapest pizza in the world (around $20 US for a 12″ zza) but the crust rivals the best pizza I’ve eaten from around the world.

Angel.co great way to invest and back projects

Came across angel.co a few weeks back (not sure where I’ve been to have missed this project). This site allows start up entrepreneurs and VC backers to connect within a simple to use interface. I’ve just completed my profile and am interested in seeking out projects that I can invest and contribute to.

If anyone is familiar with the system and has recommendations on projects worthy of having a look at please let me know.

Unlocking a tmobile Samsung S6

So had a nightmare of a time with my new Samsung Galaxy S6. The new process of unlocking which is likely to pave the way for the unlocking of all phones on tmobile a day other US carrier networks requires unlocking via an app that resides on the phone. The old method of unlocking which required an unlock code supplied by the carrier will likely be discontinued entirely.

In my case it was one thing after another with tmobile and meeting their requirements even though at the time of purchase of the phone I was told the phone was unlocked already for certain.

I managed to unlock the phone in the end but one thing that the tech support at tmobile does not tell you is that your device cannot be encrypted in order to unlock using their app.  After decrypting the device and running the app is was able to unlock the phone.  So anyone else out there who has a locked Samsung or other phone who are experiencing problems with unlocking their phones even though all conditions are met this may be the problem for you too.

Since unlocking my Samsung Galaxy S6 using the unlock app on my phone I have been able to use the phone without an issue here in St. Lucia where I live on the Digicel network without any issues.

Kraken cryptocurrency exchange one of best I’ve come across

Over the past few years I’ve dabbled with a few cryptocurrency exchanges. Recently I came across Kraken which I’m now using. I’ve found Kraken to be far more efficient in their due diligence screening process for new accounts although they still require the same amount of documentation to authorize your account for deposits and withdrawals. The system is simple to use, feature full and offers variety of trading pairs between fiat currency and cryptocurrency and between two cryptocurrencies. An interesting interview with the founder of the exchange can be viewed here if you’d like to learn more about how Kraken was started and other interesting details: http://www.newfination.com... Air Canada Cancellations Subject to $150 Cancellation Fees Per Ticket

Recently we cancelled two tickets for travel from Seattle to Vancouver. We figured that as we have so much in way of items we travel with these days due to having a 10 month old baby it would be far less stressful which without question it was. We had airline tickets booked with Air Canada the airline we tend to use whenever we can.

We cancelled the tickets with Air Canada well in advance but irrespective of this we were not eligible for a full refund nor full credit for the cost of the flights. Each flight cost $173.76 but as we were due to pay a $150 cancellation fee for each ticket the amount refunded to my credit card worked out to be $22.26 / ticket… The reason that we were not eligible for the refund was due to the type of ticket we purchased. The cheaper the ticket (Economy – Lowest also known as Tango) the worse off you are if you need to either cancel or change the ticket. We would have at least expected a full credit that could be used towards flights at a later date. But nope we got a whopping $44.52 on a nearly $400 fare for the two of us.

Anyways the moral of the story is to be sure you’re either going to 100% use the tickets. It would appear as though the only refundable tickets available by Air Canada are those for Executive Class travel and even then this is only for Executive Class Flexible and no their lowest Executive Class fares.

More information about Air Canada’s costs associated with ticket changes can be found here:

Note: This is for travel within Canada which in our case Seattle to Canada goes under.

Here attached below are a few images taken from the PDF for the refund offered by Air Canada for these cancelled flights:

DHL the Better Option For Shipping Here in Antigua

Here in Antigua your courier services are limited to DHL and FedEx. I’ve been a fan of FedEx for no particular reason for years now opting for their service. Recently I started using DHL which is by far more convenient.

First off they accept payment by cash for pickups which is great considering I don’t send nearly enough to justify setting up an account with them. This is a service that FedEx here use to offer but no longer does which is very inconvenient. Driving into town from where we live and back is a two hour ordeal so a real day waster all in all.

Second reason I’m a fan of DHL is that their prices are cheaper not by a lot like $10 per item.

No brainer really they pickup saving me a lot of time and a wasted day and they’re cheaper. Great job DHL 🙂
